Q&A
One of the most challenging projects that I have been involved with has been the Academic Hub & Library Building at Grangegorman Campus for TU Dublin. The scheme which involves the construction of a new circa 9,600m2 building adjacent to and incorporating two existing old house protected structures (circa 2,700m2) has been challenging from a technical viewpoint but also from a procurement viewpoint having been procured during a turbulent period in the construction market comprising both COVID 19 lockdowns and the impact of coming out of COVID and the Ukrainian conflict.
One of the key characteristics of a great place to work is that it is also a great place to learn – every day is a school day and as a professional you should never stop learning as you progress through your career and you should then also work to pass on the benefit of your learning and knowledge to your peers. It is essential that all members of the team are open to passing on knowledge, encouraging questions and feedback and reinforcing that there is no such thing as a stupid question.
When learning my own trade I was lucky enough to work with colleagues who understood the importance of learning and upskilling their team and this is a key aspect that makes DMC a great place to work – your physical and virtual door is always open and always make time to speak to and respond to queries.
