STATEMENT
With its outlook, it’s hard to believe that Dublin City University is almost 50 years old. This new and striking restaurant refurbishment for Glasnevin Campus is a perfect fit for its 18,000+ students from across Ireland and overseas.
The project was carried out over multiple phases with two separate tender competitions and contractors.
The kitchen fit-out was completed in April 2022 with the main works due for completion in Oct 2022.
The programme was carried out in multiple phases to ensure that the restaurant remained operational throughout the project. The projects phasing strategy had to revolve around the operators requirements to ensure that their operation needs were satisfied at all times.
The main brief was to ensure that there were no shutdowns which meant that all works were carried out in a live environment at all times.
The replacement of roof lights required a comprehensive H&S strategy which was agreed with DCU’s operations team to ensure that their on-campus H&S protocols are catered for.
A new curtain walling was required to tie in with the existing structural frame, which meant that extensive pre-commencement surveys and lad calculations were required on site to ensure the proposed new solution was compatible.
- A state-of-the-art refurbished kitchen for restaurant staff.
- Improved energy efficiency with replacement of all lighting with modern LED type lighting.
- Refurbished toilets in line with wider campus interior theme.
